Authorities call for objectivity and fairness in TEVET examination administration

Examiners and assessors for the Tevet examinations, have been urged to exercise objectivity and fairness when marking the exam series.

The call was made in Mchinji on Friday, January 20th, where a team of examiners have been gathered for a marking exercise of the December 2023 Tevet examination series.

Opening the exercise, Principal Secretary for Ministry of Labour, Wezi Kayira said the importance of the Tevet examinations cannot be over emphasized, saying Tevet graduates are essential for the development of the country.

He has since urged those involved in the examination processes to be as transparent as possible to ensure that candidates pass or fail on merit.

Executive Director for TEVET Authority, Elwin Sichiola, applauded the team for its dedication in ensuring that the exams are credible.

He said TEVET programs play a pivotal role in the realisation of Malawi 2063 agenda.

"TEVET graduates play a very important role in the development of the country and these exams are important as they determine competent artisans that the country needs," he said.

Director for Technical and Vocational Training in the Ministry of Labour, Richard Chirwa, called for confidentiality in handling the exams.

Chirwa reminded the assessors the need to take submission of reports seriously, as that will help the validation team to understand how certain decisions were arrived at during the marking exercise.

10259 candidates from 79 different private and public technical colleges, sat for the December 2023 exams.
